Publications Search - Detailed Instructions

The Publications Search web page can be used to search our database of ECOG-produced publications.

In the first text box, type in the words you would like to see in the titles of the publications. Separate these words with spaces. These will be OR'ed together; in other words, a titles must contain at least one of the words you specify in order to be displayed. If you are looking for a phrase, such as "lung cancer", then put quotes around the words of the phrase. If you wish to retrieve a list of all publications, leave the "Search Terms" box blank (in this case you may want to adjust the "Publication Year" (below)).

Words can be entered in upper or lowercase, and will be matched regardless of case.

If you wish to limit the publications by the studies on which they were based, enter the ECOG study numbers (usually an 'E' followed by four numbers) in the second text box. A publication must be based upon one of those studies in order to appear.

By default the search will be for manuscripts. If you would like to include abstracts in your search then check the box marked "Include abstracts".

Many publications are based on the results of ECOG studies. If you would like to see a list of the studies for each publication in your search, check the box "Include study numbers for protocol-based publications". These will appear in brackets at the end of the citation.

The results will include buttons at the end of each citation which, when clicked, will attempt to locate a matching publication at the National Library of Medicine's Medline library. If it finds a match, it will display their publication information which includes the full abstracts of the publications. If you do not want these buttons to appear in your results, check the box "hide buttons for looking up medline abstracts". You can also hide these later after viewing the results.

ECOG's database of publications extends back to 1976. If you wish to limit the search to a certain time period, you can adjust the years in the "Publication Year" fields. The first field is the start year. The second field is the end year. The search will start from January 1st of the specified year through December 31st of the end year. If you wish an up-to-date search, you may enter "today" in the second field. This will use the current date as the end date.

Once you have finished, click on the "Search" button. The search will commence, and once completed, your results will be displayed on a new page.

A common query would be to find all of the publications which have been published for a particular study. For this query, leave the first text box empty, and type the relevant ECOG study number (usually 'E' followed by four numbers) in the second box. You may want to include abstracts- if so, check the Abstracts check box.

Below is an example of a search for publication titles containing the phrase "lung cancer" or the word "paclitaxel". We have also restricted the search to those published after January 1st 1990 through today. This is just an example- you can start your own search by returning to the Publications Search page and filling in your own search terms and options.
